Well, I am not an advisor on investments, but I do know they generally bring in a return, but the capital does need some looking after to ensure it will always return the best revenue, don`t look after it and you could loose it all.
The same applies to rented properties, if you don`t look after them, they wont bring in the return you should expect. Ultimately they will cost you money. In some cases they will require a full refurbishment which as a landlord, you may not have budgeted on.
